Welcome to MSTC Spring Semester 2012

Some Information About Me

Hi, I'm Cynthia Sebastiani. I am a registered nurse and I hold a Masters of Science Degree in Nursing. I have held a variety of positions within the health care field. I received my Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from the University of Oshkosh in 1990. As a registered nurse, I have worked on both medical and surgical floors as well as in cardiac rehab and intensive care. I pursued a Masters of Science Degree in Nursing at the University of Madison and graduated in 1995.

After receiving my master’s degree I worked as a Nurse Practitioner in a family practice clinic and also in a Family Planning Clinic. I have been teaching nursing here at Mid-State Technical College on and off since 1997.

On the personal side, I am married; I have 3 grown children and an ever growing number of grandchildren. My husband and I are beekeepers and we keep about 10 - 15 hives. I enjoy reading, cooking, wine/mead making, biking, gardening and travel.

My two career goals in life were to be a nurse and to be a teacher. I have realized both of those goals and I have found the perfect match here at MSTC in teaching nursing. I look forward to working with each of you to achieve your goal of being a nurse.

My Favorite Quotes

Two Days
About Which Not to Worry

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry, two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.

One of these days is Yesterday -- with all its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains. Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we performed; we cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone forever. Hopefully we learned something.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow -- with all its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and its poor performance. Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control. Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise. Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is yet to be born. Hopefully we will learn something.

This leaves only one day, Today. Any person can fight the battle of just one day. It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities, Yesterday and Tomorrow, that we break down. It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad, it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.

Therefore, Carpe diem--seize Today. Use what you have learned from Yesterday, remember what you hope for Tomorrow, and make Today the best possible day. Today only comes once.

Understanding Failure

Don't think of setbacks as failures, but as learning opportunities, people who have never had setbacks are most likely operating far below their true capabilities.
