CRIMINAL JUSTICE INTERNSHIP INTRODUCTION
The Mid-State Technical College Criminal Justice Department is committed to provide the best possible criminal justice corrections and law enforcement training. Students who are enrolled in the Associate Degree program and have aspirations to become criminal justice professionals are instructed in hours of theory and participate in practical training to learn the fundamental duties and skills currently being utilized in the criminal justice field. In order to enhance the students' learning and to see how corrections officers and police officers apply the principles learned in the classroom, qualified students may apply to participate in the INTERNSHIP PROGRAM.
All prospective student interns must:
A. Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
B. Submit two letters of recommendation from past employers, teachers or
law enforcement professionals (no family members). Letters must originate
from outside the MSTC Criminal Justice Department.
C. Demonstrate professional grooming and appearance.
D. Display a good class attendance record.
E. Demonstrate a pattern of regular class participation.
F. Have a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
G. Be able to pass a physical fitness test - FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT INTERNS
ONLY.
H. Pass an oral interview.
I. Sign a waiver authorizing the release of protected information for the
purpose of conducting a background investigation. All applicants must
complete the background investigation survey completely and honestly (see
N. below).
J. Be enrolled in the Criminal Justice Associate Degree Program and have
successfully completed the first two semesters.
K. Register for course, pay tuition and material fee.
L. Register for internship and pay all fees.
M. Pass a background investigation. NOTE: Criminal convictions or lengthy
traffic records may disqualify.
N. Any student who does not pass the background investigation, physical
fitness test, fails to provide documentation on time, or is denied a
placement by an agency for any reason (including the oral interview) must
immediately withdraw from the internship. There are no refunds for the
course beyond that which are normally given by the college based upon the
date of withdrawal (see college policy on tuition refunds).
NOTE: All students are advised to review the
policy book
extensively prior to the first day of the semester to identify the
criteria necessary to qualify for the Criminal Justice Internship.
