How do I submit this assignment?
Follow the link for the Purpose Statement assignment (draft 1 or final draft, depending on which you are working on). The link should take you to the composition page, where you can paste or type the analysis directly into the web page.

As you work, remember to save the document every so often so you don't lose your work if something crashes or closes unexpectedly. Once you have completed the assignment and are ready for me to be able to see it, click the orange "Submit" button in the upper right corner of the composition frame (See screenshot below).

For the first draft only, you will be allowed to paste your file at the beginning of class. I will show you how. You must come to class on the day of the deadline with a document file already stored on your H Drive or a diskette/data stick, ready to upload immediately at the beginning of class.

Can we choose our own topic?
No. The assigned topic concerns the scenario described in the assignment handout. The Tom Cruise exercise we worked on in class is NOT the topic of this assignment.

What do you mean by the term “draft”?
The term “draft” is defined as a version or stage of development for a plan or a project. In this case, that project is an outline. Your first “draft” is the first version of your purpose statement. The term is related to a product’s stage of development, not the product itself. Even though you often write a “draft” of a paper, the first draft is a paper only when the final project will be a paper. In this case, your first draft is a purpose statement because the final product is a purpose statement. So, please do not equate the term “draft” with a written paper, as that is not always the case. You can do a first draft of nearly any type of project.

Absolutely. Everything you hand in for this class has to be typed unless I specify otherwise.

What does my first draft have to have in order for me to get full points?
Your purpose statement has to be uploaded to Turntin.com by the beginning of class in order to get full credit for the first draft. Having the draft submitted on time counts for 5 points, and participating in the peer review counts for another 5.

NOTE: If you have trouble uploading your assignment, for this deadline only I will help you at the very beginning of class. However, you must have the file for your assignment (on your H drive, in your email, or on a removable disk) ready to upload at the beginning of class or you will receive a zero for the first draft deadline. When is this assignment due?
All assignment handouts give the due date in terms of weeks and class sessions. The date on the handout represents the Monday that marks the beginning of that week. Therefore, “Week of September 10” means that the assignment is due for you some time during the five-day period between
September 10 and September 14. The class sessions tells you specifically which day: For example, if your class meets Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, Monday = Session 1, Tuesday = Session 2, and Wednesday = Session 3. If your class meets Tuesday, and Thursday, and Friday, then Tuesday = Session 1, Thursday = Session 2, and Friday = Session 3. If this system confuses you, please ask me what your particular class section’s due date is before the date provided on the handout and I will show you how to figure it out.
