Advanced Skills (543-102) Third Semester

The focus of this course is the development of advanced clinical nursing skills. This course is divided into a skills lab and classroom section.  Students will learn advanced nursing skills such as blood administration, venipuncture and central line care in the skills lab.  The classroom section of the course includes the management of chest tubes and hands on experience learning basic EKG interpretation.  Prerequisites: Health Alterations 10543105, Nursing Health Promotion 10543106, Clinical Care Across the Lifespan 10543107, Intro to Clinical Care Management 10543108

Intermediate Clinical Practice (543-111) Third Semester

This intermediate level clinical course develops the RN role when working with clients with complex health care needs. A focus of the course is developing skills needed for managing multiple clients and priorities. Using the nursing process, students will gain experience in adapting nursing practice to meet the needs of clients with diverse needs and backgrounds. Medical Assistant:

Medical Law, Ethics and Professionalism (501-109) Online

This course is a 2 credit, 12-week course.  It prepares students to understand their professional scope of practice, display professionalism and perform within ethical boundaries in the health care setting. Students focus on confidentiality, examine legal aspects of the medical record, explore risk management procedures, and examine legal and bioethical issues.  Students are required to examine their individual biases and while considering diversity in the health care setting.

Medical Assistant Clinical Procedures 1 (509-304)

Introduces medical assistant students to clinical procedures performed in the medical office setting. Students perform basic examining room skills including screening, vital signs, patient history, minor surgery and patient preparation for routine and specialty exams in the ambulatory setting. Prerequisites: Admission into Medical Assistant Program 315091

The goal of the Medical Assistant program is to prepare competent entry -level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. (American Medical Assistant Association).
